Background

The Decision of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 515/E/02014 regarding the Permit for the Implementation of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering (PSD-ITM) is aimed at enhancing the quality of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in order to make a positive and significant contribution to the development of science and technology, thereby bringing substantial benefits to the institution, society, and the nation. The implementation of this Doctoral program will support the achievement of the strategic objectives of Hasanuddin University as outlined in the Unhas 2011-2015 Strategic Plan toward becoming an internationally recognized university. To achieve this objective, the vision, mission, and objectives of this program have been formulated as follows:

Vision:

“To become a center of excellence in research, engineering, and application of mechanical engineering science that is globally oriented and insightful with a maritime culture spirit.”

Mission:

  • To produce graduates who are independent, high-quality, knowledgeable, proficient in advanced technology, innovative, and competitive in their fields at the regional, national, and international levels.
  • To develop education, research, and community service in the field of mechanical engineering with a maritime culture spirit through scientific works that contribute at the regional, national, and international levels.
  • To establish a center of excellence for research, engineering, and the application of mechanical engineering knowledge for sustainable development in the era of global competition.
  • To disseminate cutting-edge technology for improving the quality of life and preserving the sustainability of natural resources and the environment.
  • To produce graduates who are independent, high-quality, knowledgeable, proficient in advanced technology, innovative, and competitive in their fields at the regional, national, and international levels.
  • To develop education, research, and community service in the field of mechanical engineering with a maritime culture spirit through scientific works that contribute at the regional, national, and international levels.
  • To establish a center of excellence for research, engineering, and the application of mechanical engineering knowledge for sustainable development in the era of global competition.

Research Support Courses:

  1. Energy Conversion Research, including: Modeling and Optimization, Thermal Energy Storage Systems, Renewable Energy Utilization Systems, Two-Phase Flow and Fluid Dynamics, Combustion Systems, Plasma Technology, Process Engineering, Finite Volume Methods, Radiative Heat Transfer, and Nanotechnology.
  2. Research in the field of Design, Manufacturing, and Automation, including: Ocean Engineering, Advanced Plates and Shells, Dynamic Finite Element Methods, Advanced Mechanical and Acoustic Vibrations, Advanced Material Strength Mechanics, Intelligent Control Systems, Robot Manipulators, Manufacturing Optimization, Variational Methods, Biomechanical Engineering.
  3. Research in the field of Materials Engineering, including: Physical and Structural Properties of Materials, Macromechanics of Composites, Surface Analysis of Materials, Metallurgical Thermodynamics, High-Temperature Corrosion, Biological Corrosion, Industrial Facility Design, Material Crack Analysis, Advanced Casting Techniques, and Material Tribology.
